Stoneham, MA
Stoneham is located less than ten miles north of Boston with convenient access to Rte 93. About one-third of the town is located in the Middlesex Fells Reservation featuring Spot Pond for boating and sailing plus plentiful land for hiking, horseback riding, cross-country skiing and more. The Fells is also home to the popular Stone Zoo, a 26 acre zoological park bordering Spot Pond. Stoneham became a town in 1725 when the population of males reached 65. The public stagecoach arrived in 1833 on the Medford to Andover Turnpike now known as Rte 28. Stoneham progressed to a shoe manufacturing center and the population began to grow to support the industry. Many regard Stoneham as a "Hidden North End" as there are numerous fine Italian restaurants all within walking distance of the popular Stoneham Theater in Stoneham Square.
